My Dr. Wants Me To Have A Neuropsych Test Done.
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever had a neuropsych test? If so, what are they looking for? Just wandering if its to check for dementia or things like that. Or maybe he thinks Im crazy!

Well I wrote an answer and my phone ate it. Yes I had one even tho fibromyalgia Dr said it wasn't necessary. I thought with the fibrofog that I was going nuts. Psych Dr said it might help me,and it did. It showed I'm not crazy and my memory was fine. I think bc I have problems getting words out. Sometimes I can't get my brain to tell me the word for common words. My hubby finishes sentences for me,but usu I just describe the item until my brain clicks. So, ask Dr why and what he's looking for. Always is this necessary?

A typical neuropsychological evaluation for a patient with dementia or Alzheimer's to test brain function will last 2 or 3 hours, depending on the patient's tolerance, and will involve standardized testing of memory, attention, processing speed, language, visual-spatial skills, executive functioning, and motor skills.

Looked it up online and it said the test is used to determine problems in brain function or to see how well the brain is working. Unlike a Ct Scan or MRI which shows what the brain looks like. ❤️✌️🙏

I had a neuropsych exam to evaluate my memory loss, if I had Parkinsons or not. I know that they found out I have a cognitive impairment. I believe it’s from getting ECT 12 years ago. I think that might be when my fibro started too.

I don’t take gabapentin and I have trouble saying things because of fibofog. Never heard of test. So sorry.
