Is This Pain Costochondritis?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m having a lot of pain under my right breast and into my shoulder blade. It hurts to breathe, cough etc…
When I google my symptoms I get pleurisy, gallbladder, breast cancer or Costochondritis. I have a dry cough as well.
I guess I should go see the doctor but I feel like he’ll think I’m a hypochondriac!

Yes it very well could be Costochondritis I get this on my ribcage, back, sternum and front as well as breast pain find it painful if I cough or sneeze.
If I were You I would also get checked out by a Doctor to run some other Tests, including your heart as well. Just to rule out anything else and you would know then that it is Costochondritis which is very annoying and very painful.
Hope that You find out what it is that has been bothering You.

Hi Deb💜, I’m sorry you’re feeling this pain. I have Costo, and yes, the ribs hurt to breathe and cough. Mine comes and goes, but has gotten worse. I’ve had to learn when not to push, pull, lift, ect. Even leaning can hurt and wearing a bra. If it is Costo, you’ll learn what you can and can’t do. But… you should defineately talk with your doctor, and what I did, was suggested to my dr, and asked, “could this be Costochondritis”. It seems many people with Fibro have it. But we can’t always assume anything is Fibro, or Costo etc. many different things help different people. For me, Biofreeze helps. It’s temporary relief, but then you just put more on…it’s soothes it. Now.. you’re having a cough with it, that could be pleurisy or other things, or… combination of things. I feel you should see Dr, just so you know. If your doctor treats you as though you’re a hypochondriac, you need a new doctor. Make sure your doctor LISTENS to you, you deserve it! We all do. Sorry this was so long Deb, but I just want you to get the attention you deserve for this🌷. You can post me anytime, you know that😊. I’m here for you. I hope you get some answers soon. Don’t put it off😊💜. Sending you healing hugs🦋💜🦋, Love Deb. Happy Purple Day Deb🌷💜💜🌷!

My first guess was Gallbladder. Pain on right side, and in shoulder blade is the hallmark pain for Gallbladder. It could be Gallstones or Gallbladder that is not functioning at 100%. An Ultrasound will find stones, unless they are trapped in the folds of the GB. If the GB is not working at capacity, there may be signs of inflammation in the center of your chest, in an Ultra Sound. If that is the case the is one more test that is performed to verify an insuffient GB. It would be removed scopically with 5 tiny holes in your upper abdomen. Put patient procedure. Best of Luck.

Yes, it can be costochondritis and it's also considered a form a allodynia, where your skin hurts to the lightest touch. Mine is in my back rib cage.
