I know that scents uplift my mood but I've never thought about them reducing pain!

Has anyone had success with this and if so what scents and did you use candles or diffusers, etc?

I do know I am very scent sensitive, the smell of weeds makes me want to vomit. However, I love getting hit with Honeysuckle on a gentle breeze, so it is soothing. I use to have a small sandalwood hand fan that had the same effect. If you can adjust your focus to the scent away from pain, it wood have a beneficial effect. Citrus is uplifting also. I have also had to use guided relaxation with massage for intense pain. Which did work. I didn't think it would, but it did.

Hello Straw.

There are some claims that Thieves Oil essential oil is good for many different ailments. Honestly, I would be very suspicious of anything claiming to treat 50 different ailments/illnesses. However, a woman I know who has a husband with severe, debilitating headaches (referred to as suicide headaches) and he found rubbing a bit of this oil on his temples helped him some…. So maybe there’s something to it. I bought it and it didn’t do a thing for me. The mints and eucalyptus mixed with carrier oil did provide a nice sensation that gave temporary relief, like the cool/hot OTC creams you can buy. I do use essential oils in diffusers all the time because they make the room smell lovely while not using toxic chemicals like traditional “air fresheners.” That’s my experience with them. If you are looking for a soothing temporary topical, there are recipes you can find on Pinterest. I found coconut oil as the carrier oil is the best.

Now having written the above, it’s important to keep in mind we may all be more sensitive to odours and chemicals. I have been been referred to a clinic specializing in FMS, CF/ME, chemical sensitivities, etc. Basically chronic illnesses that are environmental in origin. They have a very strict no scent policy and absolutely prohibit patients from wearing any fragrance/scent. Apparently they will do a sniff test before you enter the clinic and turn you away if you haven’t complied with the policy. This practice seems to indicate that scents/fragrances are triggers for people with chronic illnesses. I hope they don’t tell me I can’t use my essential oils in future.

Hope that helps. Take good care 🤗🤗

Even though I enjoy certain scents from candles, I hate Febreeze.
With severe pain i would have to dunk my entire body before it helped.

Yes, the one I keep coming back to is lavender but I have peppermint that I use on my temples for headaches.
