Pain Meds UK
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Wondering if anyone else has seen or heard that gps and pain clinics have been told not to prescribe pain meds to fibro sufferers but instead offer talking therapy and exercise?! This worries me alot! I have done cbt and I exercise regularly (walking or swimming) none of which stops the pain so I'm a little confused to what they think will be achieved with it!

I have my own herbal methods and I use Amytriptaline to help relax muscles at night and help with sleep. I stopped relying on gp for other pain meds over a year ago. Got fed up with no results.
I function so much better now. I can manage pain better because it’s not always so intense. It never goes but it’s a bit more manageable and my flares are more spaced out.

Hi Tracey, swimming is brilliant to take pressure of hips/pelvis/back not great help right now because everything is shut. Dr's over here don't seem to understand the pain we all suffer, I have terrible problems with my back, bad days I can't move and my Dr's suggestion was floor exercises to improve muscle tone in my back and to loose weight (my bmi is 23.2) I also suffered an eating disorder when I was younger so being told to loose weight is so negligent. Also if you have access to YouTube Joe wicks does a great work out for less Mobil people it's very low impact but always makes me feel a little better mentally xx

Also on that subject like I've said on here the other day I was supposed to have my first appt with a consultant at pain management clinic last March (31st March 2020) which was canceled with the first lockdown. I haven't heard anything since from them which I understand there will be a back log that doesn't make my pain and suffering any better though plus it has been said that the NHS might give priority to people who have had covid and need management with lasting pain! Is that fair... not in my book it isn't!!..

Hi Tracey, I know that feeling all to well. My worse is my lower back and hands. I also suffer with anxiety, ibs but I've also got panic disorder. Sometimes I feel like know one understands the daily struggles (obviously apart from the people that suffer) you can rant away it's nice to be able to let it all out xx

I was supposed to have my first appt at a pain management clinic on March the 31st 2020 the day after the first lockdown here in the UK which was obviously cancelled. I haven't heard anything since which at the time last year I felt very much in limbo as I cannot tolerate strong medication and was in so much pain so with little other choice I decided to find things out for myself and was a matter of trial and error. I do try to get out for a walk every day weather permitting and yes it is a struggle most days with the pain energy strength ect but I'm determined my legs aren't going to seize up I don't drive anyway so have to walk for everything mostly anyway and I changed my diet to plant based which has made things more bearable for me. Certainly eating more fruit and veg had improved my energy and my pain isn't quite so intense! I'm not saying it's fixed everything and it works for all but I had to try something for myself to try and better things for myself! It's only of recent years since fibro ect that I've not been able to tolerate strong medication for what reason I don't know but get very tight gripping knotting pains in my legs plus pregabli made me suicidal. I'm also a great believer that in time all meds do is mask the problem and don't really treat the cause and stop working in time. I'm still learning various things and trying things out so I can be as good as I can with this chronic condition. Still suffer daily pain still get tired fatigued ect but not so intense and believe if you don't try some sort of exercise you lose it.it's true the saying if you don't use it you lose it!
