Members shared their experiences with fibromyalgia over time, with the overwhelming consensus being that symptoms worsen with age rather than improve, though one member described conquering severe symptoms through determination and staying active, and another found relief through diet changes and chiropractic care. Several members described how fibromyalgia has become progressively more debilitating, spreading to new areas of the body, causing additional complications like IBS and rheumatoid arthritis, and requiring constant medication adjustments that lose effectiveness over time. A recurring theme was the daily struggle to find balance, adapt to changing symptoms, and maintain the best quality of life possible despite the frustrating reality that fibromyalgia tends to intensify rather than resolve as people enter their 60s and 70s.

I agree with everyone, fibro gets worse as we age. I was diagnosed in 2008. I am now 60 and was diagnosed with IBS and RA. Both comorbidities of fibro. My feet now are both very painful to walk on. Bone Spurs in both heals. It’s inevitable that as we age, our bodies will show the results. I believe Fibro will never get better as we age. Let’s live our best possible lives now. Keep searching for whatever gives you relief.

I began with just neck symptoms, massage therapist thought perhaps I had a twisted C1. I came to discover random pain progressing down my back, extended to my shoulders, slowly overtook my entire arms. Now I am covered in sore spots, I have random unexplainable pain throughout my entire body. Got diagnosed this year. I cannot imagine how much worse it could get, and how much worse it is when you are older. “It isn’t degenerative, it doesn’t progress” best joke I have ever heard. Sending hugs 💜

When I was finally diagnosed I was in a wheelchair. The Dr said back then I was the worst case he had seen and I was told I’d never get out of the wheelchair. It was the most difficult physical thing in my life, that began in 1998. I was determined to walk again. The road was long and hard but I left the wheelchair and eventually was able to not only walk but work again. I was able to not only work but live my life without meds. I worked 3 jobs and two of those were physical labor. This is now 22 years later. I’m in my 50s now and see differences I’m faced with. Pain in areas I struggle with now that weren’t so prevalent then I believe due to age. I know there is no cure I’m just trying to adjust to my symptoms now. Staying as active as possible helps although kind of frustrating. My muscles have to adjust get up each morning and the same for trying to lay down. The symptoms come and go and change daily. It’s finding the best balance for the day. ♥️♥️♥️
