Members warmly welcomed someone experiencing unexplained chest and upper back pain after a clear ER visit, with nearly everyone identifying it as likely costochondritis, an inflammation of the chest wall and ribcage that mimics heart attack symptoms and is common among people with fibromyalgia. Several members shared practical relief strategies including anti-inflammatory medications, heat therapy, Vicks VapoRub, and in one case a medication combination that significantly reduced the pain and breathing difficulty. A recurring theme was the reassurance that while this symptom can be frightening and painful, it often improves with time and treatment, though members consistently emphasized the importance of getting chest pain medically evaluated first to rule out serious cardiac issues.

Google Costeochrondritis...a lot of us get it. Hurts the worst first two weeks.Antiinflammatory, heat on area. I like Vick’s vapor rub on the pain area...it works!💙

It sounds like costochondritis. I get it but has settled down more now I've given up my very physical job. I had chest xrays heart scans ect which were all fine but had awful pain in my chest and tightness plus into my middle back area too. Finally got to the bottom of it and was diagnosed with costochondritis inflamation around the ribcage sternum breastbone and can mimic heart problems ect! 💕
