Members shared their experiences with severe shoulder blade pain that disrupts sleep, with many finding relief through a combination of heat therapy (heating pads, hot water bottles, heat massagers) and self-massage tools like the Theracane or shiatsu massagers. Several members mentioned medications and topicals that help, including gabapentin, ibuprofen, CBD, and Deep Heat Rub, while others described propping themselves with pillows to find comfortable positions. A recurring theme was that this pain often flares cyclically or with stress, can last several days, and may be related to nerve damage or rotator cuff issues, but creative self-care strategies provide meaningful relief.

I use a Theracane to release the tightness in my shoulder blades.

All the time--and it's back to my shiatsu massage chair pad for a visit. That and ibuprophen will usually take care of it in a day or so.

Get that quite often. I use my heating pad and CBD and a few pillows to prop myself in a comfy position. It usually lasts for about 4-5 days. It’s like I hit menopause and instead of a period I get this stupid shoulder thing- lol!
