Does anyone else suffer OCD along with their Fibro? My OCD is getting worse and when i'm havin a Fibro flare up, I still can't stop. I've been awake since 3am and have been cleaning since then and am in agony. And i'm still looking around for things that need doing whilst i'm sat writing this. Have you managed to stop yourself when having a flare up? And if so how?Any tips please?

While I was raising my daughter who diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, OCD & ADHD at 7, I didn't not realize that I had OCD, too. During the 20 years I have studied these problems, I have learned that OCD isn't always about the cleaning. My daughter always has trouble with feeling over whelmed and she wouldn't clean anything. I've even had to explain to a police officer that it isn't always about cleaning.
It's best to be checked by a professional to see if you do, indeed, have it or another similar malady. I looked up one website the explains it more clearly.

I hope this helps anybody
my girl had to touch things repetitively but that was mixed with TS
It's going to sound weird, but have you always been over sensitive and it's easy to pick up clues from other people? I feel and read people by their body language, and i feel things around me differently. The medication that I take is Effexor and Naltrexone and I just recently added welbutrin for my anxiety and depression. They have really helped. My OCD only happens when I clean a room really good, I have to have it stay perfect. I also have to check the door more than a couple of times. I forget so many things, that I don't trust myself.
If I had more energy I'd probably still do that. I did that A LOT when I was younger.
You asked for tips and I would say my top 2 are to force yourself to take some physical relaxation like taking a brisk walk or forcing yourself to take a nice bath/shower and secondly to distract your thoughts like watching an engrossing movie or playing with pets.
My husband is also very supportive. @A MyFibroTeam Member, interesting theory about anxiety causing fibro. I’ve always had anxiety, I can remember being in grade school, if I had a test, I would get a stomach ache. I had a prescription to take before tests. I don’t remember the name but it was green liquid. I was able to keep my anxiety under control, never had to take an antidepressant. I’ve always had Valium or Xanax (lowest dose) for when my anxiety got bad, but it wasn’t very often. Now that I have fibro, my anxiety is off the charts. I took cymbalta for 2 years, it didn’t help with any of my fibro symptoms and I had a lot of side effects from it...but it worked great for my anxiety. After 2 years it stopped working, so I went off of it. The withdrawals were a nightmare, my doctor weaned me too fast. I was completely of of it in July 2016. I made it to the fall of 2017, my anxiety got so bad I couldn’t eat. I lost 20 pounds I could afford to lose. My doctor recommended remeron (it’s supposed to help your appetite) I only gained the weight I lost. No side effects and I felt better. It didn’t completely take my anxiety away, but it was enough for me to handle it. Unfortunately it’s not working anymore, now I have to wean off of it and find a new antidepressant. I would love to find the root of fibromyalgia. I saw a functional doctor for a year and a half. She couldn’t help. Sometimes I think it could be caused from traumatic events in our lives. I’ve had several starting at the age of 19. But that wouldn’t explain my anxiety in grade school 🤷🏼♀️
Yes, among the other things I have, I have OCD mild compared to my daughter, and once in a great while, I'll try to clean as much as I can but I blame the move I did in April. A lot is still not done because I don't have help. I try to think of thinks I can do while laying in bed when I'm in a flare or some small crafts for those times but I think @A MyFibroTeam Member has a good idea. Sometimes, you have to fight it and force yourself to sit or go for a walk or you will hurt. To help my anxiety, I put on my favorite movie and have it just playing to help. It slows me down to relax.
A basic routine may help. I've just been ready The Mighty about Fibro
