In my experience, most General Practitioners are the ones who diagnose Fibromyalgia and then they refer the patient on to be managed by a Rheumatologist, which is pointless these days as Fibromyalgia isnt a rheumatic illness, or to a Neurologist, who basically do what all the other providers do-- prescribe meds they think may help & advise you to take a Yoga class or an aquatic exercise class. If you can manage to push through the pain, the exercises & stretching do help some but you have to do it routinely in order to get some benefits....& you cant overdo it....& you cant do it during a flare up. My Neurologist recommended the aquatic class but I dont have a gym membership & cant afford one so she said, "What about friends--do they have a swimming pool you can use?" I replied, "yes I do have a couple of friends who have a pool but they are above ground pools and it is February." That is a limited option for many people like me, plus the chlorine in the pool water burns my skin. My skin is very sensitive to chemicals & fabrics, detergents, & lotions. 🎄
Just confusing how its sort of its on disease that no doctor truly specializes in
Thanks to all for the informative responses
That's the million dollar question. The most help I've gotten is from my mental health Doctor. We all have depression, so at least some of medication we take can also help with our fibro.
