Does anyone have trouble with chronic fever blisters? I get them repeatedly on my lips and in my nose. Dr says it's just in my system, and has to work its way out but I've had them at least two to three times a month for the past 3 years.

Members connected over the frustrating experience of chronic fever blisters and canker sores, with many sharing that stress, certain foods like citrus or walnuts, and the herpes simplex virus are common triggers that can be difficult to control or predict. Several members offered practical remedies including L-lysine supplements (1000mg twice daily), applying hydrogen peroxide early with a cotton ball, daily antiviral medications like Valtrex to keep the virus dormant, mupirocin ointment, and replacing toothbrushes and lip products after outbreaks to prevent reinfection. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of managing visible sores and unpredictable flares, with members offering solidarity around anxiety, the challenge of identifying personal triggers, and the relief that comes from finding a treatment routine that works.

Try to figure out what triggers them, sometimes it’s food, maybe stress?? Once you get one, do you get rid of your toothbrush and replace it again once the sore is gone....same with chapstick and lipstick. Cold sores AKA herpes simplex virus 1 is very contagious. Your doctor didn’t recommended that you could try taking lysine, zinc or vitamin C supplements to provide your immune system with an additional boost? Make sure you keep the sores moist and always wash your hands after touching them.

Amanda, using hydrogen peroxide at the earliest stage of the fever blister stops it in its tracks. I just get a cotton ball put some peroxide and dab it a few times through the day. It only works when applied early on.

@A MyFibroTeam Member, Herpes simplex is not the same as canker sores. Herpes simplex is a virus, cankers aren’t. I’ve been getting canker sores my whole life, sometimes it’s from too much citrus, stress, hormones, an injury, sometimes I have no idea why I get them.

I also have herpes simplex condition since I was young. I don't get the sores on my lips as much, but experience burnt tongue syndrome and canker sores on my gums.

That’s a supplement...L- Lysine. I’ve used it for years. 1000mg x 2. They also have a lip ointment with lysine which helps outer cold sores. Some have said oil of oregano topically helps the inside ones, you may be able to use it inside your nose ones.
