I use to love a nice warm shower and actually took one every morning before work. I am very careful about the water temp and how long I take. Still when I get out I am wasted and need to lay down and rest for 30 minutes or more. Now showering is a chore.

Members shared how fibromyalgia has transformed showering from a simple daily routine into an exhausting and often painful ordeal, with many describing arm and shoulder pain from washing hair, water feeling like needles on sensitive skin, and needing 30 minutes or more to recover afterward. Several members mentioned practical adaptations they've made, including switching to baths, using shower chairs to conserve energy, spacing out showers to just a few times per week, and carefully managing water temperature to avoid passing out, triggering muscle tightening, or excessive sweating. A recurring theme was the grief of losing something once enjoyable and the need to carefully plan rest and recovery time around basic self-care tasks.

I HATE showering and put it off as long as I can!! I don’t like not showering but it’s just too much! Pain in my arms is brutal and shampooing my hair, almost impossible! Sweating when I get out which makes me wonder why I even showered? Takes so much out of me physically!! The list goes on as I sit here putting off the shower I need to have immediately! Big gentle hugs to all my common sufferers!!!

I have no problem showering but it's painful to my husband that also has fibro (baths are fine). So I think it differs with people

I'm the same, I have episodes where the water feels like needles coming out of the shower.

Recently the shower spray feels like needle points hitting my skin. I was wondering "what happened to my shower head," but the more accurate question might be, "is my fibro worsening (again)?" I've read that it does worsen over time and I've had it (at least) 25-30 yrs. and mine has definitely worsened over time.

I don’t have any trouble showering most days as the hot water feels good on my achy body. However, when I feel especially fatigued and have fibro fog, I can’t wash and dry my hair.
