Does Anyone Here Take Any Of The Supplements I've Listed Below?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello Fibro Warriors! I have been researching natural supplements that treat Fibromyalgia. I plan to get off the Gabapentin and Cymbalta that I take.

I am wandering if anyone here has tried any of them and how well they work?

5HTP- positively influence sleep, mood, anxiety, pain sensations, also used to treat fibromyalgia

SAMe - reduce pain, fatigue, morning stiffness, depression and mood. I here it is used to treat fibromyalgia

Alpha Lioic Acid - boost circulation and block nerve pain

I take L-Theanine which seems to help regulate mood. I feel less anxiety and depression. My sister is a crazed health supplement addict and one of my good friends is a doctor of nursing. Between my sister telling me a million supplements to take and my nursing friend telling me that all supplements are a scam, I got to the point where I felt like I was taking so many recommended supplements and couldnt tell their impact! The thing I decided to do was take one supplement at a time so I could tell which ones really help before adding another. Oh, and I also told my sister to chill with the advice and my nurse friend to do the same. Stress from too many voices in your life is sometimes the worst stress of all!

I’ve heard good things about SAMe but have not taken it myself. Before I was diagnosed with RA & fibro I was taking Tumeric, boswellia, COQ10 and fish oil. The tumeric seemed to help with the inflammation but I was never free of pain while taking these supplements. One thing that did help me was Celebrex but after taking about 6 weeks I began having heart palps. I went off of it & about 6 months later decided to try again to be sure it was Celebrex and because I felt so much better on it. But then I got the palpitations again. Trial
& error is the name of the game!

If you have IBS, try going gluten free (avoiding wheat is the main thing) for 24 hours. I felt better the next time & have remained g.f. for about a year now.

Sam-e is amazing I used to take it before i was on seizure medication. Just make sure you don't take it in conjuction with an SSRI. ( anti depressant) you can get something called serotonin syndrome and you can get very sick. Same with 5htp
I also love 5 htp! Both great supplements! I found a great reduction in pain with Sam-e. Any time i do any supplements. I take them for 6 weeks only then take a break. Let my body get a break.
