I just started taking Gabapentin and have been struggling with the side affects. I was just wondering if anybody else has taken this medication and how it has affected them. I'm unsure if I can handle continuing to take it.

Members shared their varied experiences with gabapentin for pain management, with many describing initial side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, and mood swings that often improved as their bodies adjusted to the medication over time. Several members offered practical strategies, including starting at a very low dose and increasing gradually, taking the medication only at night to manage daytime drowsiness, and pairing it with other medications like naproxen for better pain control. A recurring theme was that everyone responds differently to gabapentin, with some tolerating it well for many years and others needing to switch to alternatives like amitriptyline, emphasizing the importance of staying in close contact with a doctor and trusting personal instincts about what feels manageable.

your body has to adjust to it. Once you have been on it awhile the side effects may subside. the worst one for me was the sleepyness.

I have been taking gabapentin for over 15 years and I seem to handle it okay. I guess it affects people differently.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I started with 300mg at night. My doctor wants me to get up to that dose 3 times a day. My symptoms are starting to go away. Now to try uping the dose. Hopefully the syptoms don't get worse again.

Ive taken gabapentin for 12 years. Ive had just the dizziness, drowsiness. I take 600 mg in morning and afternoon and 900mg at night. How much did they start you on? They started me in 100mg cause i was sensitive to medication
