Has Anyone Had Trouble With Worsening Insomnia With Low Dose Naltrexone?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor has started me on low dose naltrexone for fibro. I was started on 1 mg and told to titrate up by 1 mg every week until reaching 5mg. Problem is that every time I get up to 2 mg, I can’t sleep at all. I’m wired all night. Pharmacist told me to switch to morning dosing (which is supposed to be not as effective according to all the LDN websites) but even that is only semi-effective. I’d really like to give it a chance to see if I can come off Lyrica which makes my memory and fogginess… read more

From what I've read and according to my doctor, you need to try a low dose (LDN) for months before trying an increase. Posts I've read all say that you have to find the dose that works for you and stay at that dose. Over time, you may need to up it. Some people are on only .5mg and that works for them. Most seem to think that around 3 mg is a good dose. I read one person needed 7 mg. to work well. I've taken 1 mg. and, initially, I had the best sleep I've had in many, many years. Then, I seemed to be energized and had difficulty going to sleep and remaining asleep. I started taking a Melatonin at bedtime and began sleeping normally. Some people have said that it took many months (up to a year) before they felt the full effects of it working for them. I have considered dropping my dose or trying it in the morning instead of at night. Many have stated that that works better for them. We're all learning.

Thanks. My doctor won’t prescribe benzodiazepines except for short-term, emergency purposes. What is Remeron? I do have sleep apnea and have to use a CPAP machine. I find that the muscle relaxants (cyclobenzaprine) that my Dr. prescribed for sleep and muscle spasms, makes my apnea a lot worse.
