Hi all,

Does anyone find that the sun seems far stronger than it used to be? I only need minutes in it and I burn, sting, itch and tingle. I never used to have a problem before, also feel as if I can’t cool down and feel faint and start to panic.

Members responded to a question about increased sun sensitivity, with many sharing that they've experienced a significant shift from once enjoying the sun to now feeling faint, itchy, or experiencing pain after just minutes of exposure. Several members explained that autoimmune conditions like lupus and fibromyalgia, as well as thyroid issues and certain medications, can cause heightened sensitivity to both sun and heat, leading to symptoms like rashes, spasms, nausea, and exhaustion. A recurring theme was the emotional adjustment of losing the ability to spend time outdoors comfortably, with members now gardening during cooler hours, wearing sunglasses constantly, and taking extra precautions to avoid overheating.

I use to lay out in the sun for hours at the beach, now I can't handle direct sunlight for long periods of time. I love gardening but do it early or later in the day. I feel very faint when I'm in the sun to long.

I'm sensitive to the sun but I don't think it's the fibro. I'm fair skinned so I need to be careful anyways and at least one of my meds warns about sun sensitivity. I also over heat easily.
