I feel like other people think I'm some huge baby and I am not. I've lived and worked through pain for years, but this has knocked me on my ass. I see the looks. I don't know how to explain it or what to say when I have to miss a meeting. I'm sure this question has been asked numerous times. I just didn't find it scrolling. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Members deeply understood the frustration of trying to explain fibromyalgia pain to others who cannot grasp its severity, with many sharing that they spent years trying to convince friends, family, and coworkers of their invisible illness before realizing that understanding isn't always possible or necessary. Several members offered practical advice, including sharing educational articles from resources like Verywell, YouTube, and support groups, trying topical treatments like Voltaren cream and turmeric supplements, and reframing self-care as listening to your body rather than giving up. A recurring theme was the importance of focusing on your own well-being rather than seeking validation from others, finding acceptance in supportive communities like this one, and giving yourself permission to have bad days without guilt or apology.

What you are experiencing is pretty common when trying to explain your pain from fibromyalgia. I blame it on not enough awareness to the public regarding this horrible debilitating condition . You are in the right place as once I found this site I now have a place where I feel accepted and find comfort. To hec with people who choose to be ignorant and not educate themselves on fibromyalgia . Well wishes

It would have been distressing to receive comments.
Now I deal mostly with husband’s comments knowing that if it were him having this he’d be almost helpless. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone!
But since I’ve been graced with this, I mostly ignore him/change the subject, keep to myself and do the occasional escape if I can🙏

Hi. I’ve spent the past 21 years explaining to ppl that I have some very serious conditions, even though I always look well. It finally became a joke on my colitis walk team, when I named our team, “But you LOOK good!” Lol. Just got the fibromyalgia diagnosis last year, and u know what? I have finally realized that ppl truly cannot grasp it because they cannot relate to it. They cannot even imagine what we live with. And I’ve spent sooo many years trying to get others to understand, and worrying about what others think. The hardest part was always at work, cuz I’d get dirty looks and ppl thinking they were funny, saying, “ Thanks for finally showing up!” And stuff like that. I wish I didn’t waste so much of my energy on trying to convince others I have been so sick, in retrospect. But I know at the moment, it was always distressing. Good luck.

Yes, same here. Worked hard for many years. I kept going with this until it kicked me on my ass. People don't understand, keep going, worry about yourself. It's horrible 😭😭. Be strong Hun, that's all we can do. By the way if you haven't tried it, try tumeric. Doesn't take it all away but helps and also voltaren topical cream, helps relieve the pain also. Prayers for us all to feel better
