Hi there! I know dry mouth is common with FMS but how about dry throat?! I came down with a virus last week (3/31) and it lasted for about 5 days but around the third day, my biggest symptom was an extremely dry throat. It literally feels like I cannot get enough water to quench my throat...in fact, drinking more when its at its driest only seems to make it worse. The virus is now gone but the dry throat remains...and now I am getting a dry mouth. I went to the ENT yesterday. They did a… read more

Members rallied around someone experiencing persistent dry throat and mouth after a virus, sharing that while dry mouth is common with fibromyalgia and certain medications, dry throat can also occur and may be linked to medication side effects, GERD, or other autoimmune conditions like Sjögren's. Several members recommended practical remedies including Biotene oral rinse and toothpaste, saliva-stimulating tablets that adhere to the teeth, humidifiers, cough drops, staying hydrated, and consulting with specialists like an endocrinologist or dentist, especially since reduced saliva can lead to serious dental problems. A recurring theme was the unpredictable and sometimes frightening nature of fibromyalgia symptoms, met with gentle encouragement, empathy, and the reassurance that experimenting with different solutions and advocating for yourself with medical professionals can help manage these challenging flare-ups.

I find that your symptoms can change at any time. My dry mouth makes my lips dry. I've only had the dry throat a couple of times. I have gerds too which has all kind of symptoms. I use lip balm and suck on cough drops. I also have a chronic cough. Hope you can find a solution soon. Some of our symptoms are scary. Gentle hugs

@A MyFibroTeam Member,

You can check your local drug store for brand name, *Carmex Lip Balm. ***Do NOT get a "Savings Pack." I only needed to use 2 or 3 times. Then dry lips were *GONE! I did not need to continue using--or I don't. So I have an *EXTRA, unused tube. See if this might help your lips.

Last night, I used part of a cough drop, after using a bit of nose drops. I always do. Helps STOP nose from "running." Amazing at what we can learn, by experimenting. Have a GOOD, Pain Free Day, Young Lady.

Amy,

I agree with Edith on the *Biotene oral rinse. Also, do you have a humidifier? I'm not suffering st the moment. Nor will I use for a LONG time. But just enough to get some moisture in my throat. Today, they have nice machines that can easily be turned on and off, without steaming up the entire house.

I don't know if *Vick's Vapor Rub is good for this. As a kid, parents would *boil water and add *Vick's to it. We would inhale the vapors.

I JUST found this site, for you. Hope it helps.
