Members overwhelmingly recommended rheumatologists as the best specialists for treating fibromyalgia, though several shared frustrating experiences of being dismissed or told nothing was wrong by doctors who couldn't see visible symptoms. Many community members described finding success with alternative specialists including neurologists (especially those who have fibromyalgia themselves), pain specialists, and physical therapists who often understand the condition better than traditional doctors. A recurring theme was cautious optimism about emerging blood tests that may soon diagnose fibromyalgia with nearly 100% accuracy, which members hope will lead to being taken more seriously by the medical community and ending the painful years-long diagnostic journeys many have endured.

i just seen recently they are currently looking at a blood test that will not only diagnose fibromyalgia but also tell how severe it is. they have had an almost 100% success rate with the testing so far. if this does take place then i feel we'll be looked at more serious because some doctors are just shallow about illness that they can't visibly see. maybe doctors will learn more about the illness then too.

@A MyFibroTeam Member what you wrote is so true. I have had doctors, and I am confident you all as well, tell me it is in my head and I am a hypochondriac. It took me nine years to get first diagnosed with IC and he told me I should have been diagnosed nine years ago after he looked at my records. Doctors don't get me started.
