Balance

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

How many people have problems with balance? My balance is getting so bad that I have to hang on to something when I just turn my head. If there is something moving like cars or waves at the beach it just makes me so dizzy that it is all I can do to just stand up. Thanks in advance....

In fibromyalgia, dizziness, poor balance, and falls are common complaints. For some people, they're a minor annoyance that crops up on occasion. In others, they can be severely debilitating and lead to regular injuries.

Calkid I sure would appreciate hearing more about vestibular rehabilitation. My doctor is sending me in for vascular testing and wants me seeing a PT that specializes in Balance. The current one I'm seeing doesn't seem to know what to do with me other than have me stand on one leg (doesn't work).

@A MyFibroTeam Member I understand fully what you are experiencing. My friends always joke that I've had a head start in the drinks department when we go out. I don't drink alcohol, except for special occasions, because it just makes it worse. I too have to have a hand rail. And don't start me on escalators ....... The number of times I've stood at the top hesitating about putting my foot on it. People get frustrated with me, even my husband in the early days. He now stands in front of me so I can't see the floor.πŸ™ˆ

I have always had balance issues but they have been aggravated by Labyrinthitis and fibro. I have to wait when I stand up for my head to settle.

It did not do much for me....once for vertigo and then general. The vertigo was before Fibro and one of my many plane flights corrected it unknowingly until I walked off a plane.
Since Fibro it seems my balance decreased, also after long hospital stays - onlt thing that worked was the basic reintroduction of walking between bars and yes, standing on a foam pad. I bought one for home which assists in muscle memory and function but the best I can do. My brain is so spaced/pained that I think my brain just loses focus on it.
From an athlete to a ton of rehab - it still pops up. I stay aware and adjust.
Hope you find some great results.
