My doctor says it's worse for a fibro patient to recover from opps, but I hope having one will alleviate some other pains and problems I have.
I have had a hysterectomy, 2 cervical fusions, an appendectomy, my gallbladder out and a colon resection since I've had fibro. Ive had fibro for 30 years. I really dont remember flaring up any more than my normal after my surgeries. I think it just depends on the surgery and the person. Just try to think positive and get as much rest as you can before and after the surgery. Good luck and I will pray it goes well for you. Hugs.
Yes Fibro often flares up after a surgery. Yet I would never let that stop from having surgery I needed. I have had a bad flare after a surgery and no flare after another.
Yes, I have to agree. I just had my gallbladder removed 6 days ago, and I'm still hurting from it. Even though they said that I'm pretty much healthy besides having a sick gallbladder and dealing with a lot of different pains. Still the fibromyalgia does make healing from an opp more difficult because we feel more pain and it makes other kinds of pain flare up and it just wears us out. At least that's what I've been feeling.
I've had an ERCP and the recovery was much longer than usual. This might sound crazy but I would encourage you to talk to your anesthesiologist and request the smallest diameter breathing tube needed for your surgery. Without going into details, I had trouble with recovery that involved my vocal cords and the breathing tube, and a smaller tube would have helped a lot. My throat pain was absolutely terrible. Even though all that happened, I would still have a surgery that you need even if it puts you in a flare or the recovery is longer. Also, my doctor sent me to a really good eye doctor in my city. She told me to get used to having "eye fatigue" with fibromyalgia and to give me eyes lots of breaks. She said that our fibromyalgia eyes are much easier to eye strain. Just what you wanted to hear!
Reading all the comments regarding surgery and Fybromyalgia flare up gets worse that’s explained to me why my fybro has worsened. I’ve had ankle surgery in December and I’ve been in too much pain. I still have another ankle surgery to go through! Also can any one please tell me if they have problems with their eyes with Fybromyalgia flare ups?
