Trigger Point Massage Twice A Week
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I have been having trigger point massage twice a week for about two months. I feel better the day I have the massage, but for a day or two after, the pain is worse and widespread and I am much more fatigued. I do drink water before and after the massage. Is this common when first having trigger point massage and will it go away as more of the trigger points release and the fascia becomes softer and thinner? Thank you for any information.

Trigger point or deep tissue massage is NOT for fibro sufferers. It makes things worse! A soothing (Swedish) massage is helpful.

I can’t afford to pay for massages, I am riddled with trigger points. I can get some relief by stretching and foam rolling daily.

A more gentle and Fibro related massage is called Myofascial Release. May be worth a try if your massage therapist knows the technique.

I had a full body massage once. I was sick in bed for almost a week after it. It releases all the toxins that are in the knots in our bodies and it makes us sick and hurt worse. It is good to release the toxins and flush them out with water but it depends on how bad you are.after whether its worth it to keep having them. If you can deal with it, try it a few more weeks to see if it helps. Good luck

I had to stop all massages. I was experiencing great relief immediately after, but the next day or 2 the pain was so extreme that I decided it wasnt worth it. And i tried to see if this would improve with more treatment, but it never. I tried different massage therapists and different massages. Made no difference. Any massage that was for relaxation only and didnt work on knots and trigger points was ok, but i also dont find they help at all.

Awe massages! They hurt so good. Lol. Almost always the day of getting a massage i felt so good. But it always seemed to follow with excuriating widespread pain. Trigger point massages are so deep, and twice a week. I wouldnt be able to walk to make it to the massages. Lol. But its really a personal thing as far as if you think they might help over the long run. But i gave it a shot for a while also, but couldnt handle the after effects. I give myself trigger point massages on my shoulders, neck, head or anywhere i can reach. Thats all i seem to need as it just relieves the pressure. And i know when ive had enough. Lol. Good luck to you. Sorry i wrote a book. Lol.
