My burning mouth is creeping back in. I know some people on here have experience with this. Did you have experiences where it went away and then would come back again out of the blue? Last time I experienced this was around October and it went away. Now I feel it mildly. It's on the sides of my tongue and towards the back of my throat. Feels like I ate or snorted black pepper...

Members discussed the frustrating on-and-off nature of burning mouth syndrome, with many describing sensations like eating black pepper, scalding, or fire that come and go unpredictably over weeks or months. Several members shared practical relief strategies, including gargling with warm salt water or liquid Benadryl, switching to baking soda for brushing teeth to avoid mint burn, getting B12 injections after blood tests revealed deficiency, and avoiding spicy foods during flare-ups. A recurring theme was the unpredictable variety of fibromyalgia symptoms and the emotional toll of losing favorite foods and activities, balanced by gratitude for community support and shared understanding.

Yes I experience this off and on. I was told it’s just one of many symptoms of fibromyalgia. I found gargling With warm salt water and liquid Benadryl . I alternate between the two. It helps with it for me

I had a burning itchy feeling on my tongue, and also really dry nose before xmas. Doctor said it was a indication of low B12, had blood test and she was correct. Had a course of 10 injections, now have to have them 3 monthly, common in Fibro! Within a few weeks the buring went.
Maybe see your doctor and ask about this if not already done so xx

Sara77,

Do you ever have an "after taste" from food and just WANT to brush? I always do. Right now, I am chewing on a *tiny piece of *Dentyne Pure. I can make just one piece last up to four times! And it has that *mint taste. I just try to control on how much of the *center (flavor) to let come in when biting each corner! Works for me.

I hope you conquer this. I SO understand. I have started using just a little Baking Soda on my tooth brush to clean my teeth. Used to watch my Mom use, all the time to whiten her teeth, from smoking. I don't smoke. But teeth ARE whiter! I used to want one of those dental kits, where you'd have to wear paste for so long. Don't Need It!

Though I need to find something to cover some of the holes, I take a used spice jar--let's say, "Celery Seed." After it is washed out and dried, put Baking Soda inside. I ALWAYS hold toothbrush over sink, "twirling" small jar and getting just a small amount on the brush. Some always goes in the sink. I do not wet toothbrush. Works for me! Just rinse well. No Burning!
