I pick a theme word every year rather than have a resolution. This year my theme word is "DIFFERENCE." I want to make itty bitty teeny tiny decisions throughout each day that make a difference in the lives of other people and my life and see how, by the end of the year, they accumulate and make BIG differencey. I decided this word weeks ago but just last night read a story of people with low paying jobs who over the course of their lives stacked away millions of dollars making tiny investments… read more

Members rallied around the post author's theme word of making small, daily differences, with many enthusiastically committing to join the accountability challenge focused on gradually increasing physical activity despite fibromyalgia pain and limitations. Several members shared their personal approaches to gentle movement, including using a Fitbit to track progress without comparison, doing seated exercises or push-ups multiple times daily, joining a gym with a trainer for guided fibro-friendly workouts, and incorporating stretching or walking into routine tasks. A recurring theme was the power of incremental change and mutual encouragement, with members expressing excitement about supporting each other's journeys toward improved health and celebrating any movement as meaningful progress.

Well I can only go half way to the floor but I'm happy with that for now. I do these 2 or 3 times a day and also stretch my back as I tend to sit an awful lot.

Oxidative stress is the difference between the free radicals your body produces and the amount of antioxidants your body produces and you consume in foods a day. It has been linked to over 100 diseases and illnesses. Every 10 years of your life the oxidative stress multiplies.

Fatigue, memory loss and/or brain fog, muscle and/or joint pain, wrinkles and grey hair, decreased eye sight, headaches and sensitivity to noise, susceptibility to infections are all symptoms of oxidative stress. Do they sound familiar?

I’m finding using a Fitbit helps me to be aware of movement and try to do more. Not competing with anyone but myself. I can’t do 10,000 steps a day but if I even get close to 5,000, I feel I’m doing more than I was. I also manually enter exercise like 15 minutes of gentle yoga or water aerobics class and it helps me to see accomplishments. Good luck!

If everyone would be accountable for themselves, we wouldn't have the fighting and hatefulness we see today. I decided in 1985 to start working for non-profits. At first it was through my jobs in PR. Then working pronono on a magazine. Finally in 1992 I got a job working for a non profit educationsl organization. Never felt better about myself knowing that I was helping others in need. But it was hard on my body, and I was forced into retirement early because of the new perfumes and detergents. So now I'm accountable for only myself again. To take care of myself and my family as best as I can. I figure I worked for 50 years. That's good enough. But I can still pray for peace!!

I'm glad I saw this post today as it reminded me that I haven't done my push-ups today. I decided for my 60th birthday this summer I want to be able to do 10 full push-ups. I already know that isn't going to happen but I'm darn sure going to give it a try. My other difference is to share my knowledge about oxidative stress and how bad it is for your body. If you do nothing else, work on reducing oxidative stress.
