Has Anyone Tried A Weighted Blanket?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Hi, I bought myself a weighted blanket, and it's awesome
The weight is evenly distributed - mine has tiny glass beads inside. Sewn into square grids. I've had a better sleep every night so far. Quite expensive (Β£90-Β£120) but I absolutely feel more rested and haven't been waking up so much. I've been able to sleep without taking any sleep meds and feel clearer headed in the morning. I'm not saying I still haven't had a few wakeful times, but the sleep I have had is deeper, I've been dreaming… read more

Members enthusiastically endorsed weighted blankets for improving sleep quality, with many reporting deeper rest, fewer nighttime awakenings, reduced fidgeting, and relief from anxiety, restless legs, and insomnia after switching to blankets filled with tiny glass beads rather than plastic. Several members shared practical tips, including placing a sheet between the blanket and body to manage warmth, choosing glass beads over plastic for better weight distribution and quieter movement, selecting blankets around 10% of body weight (with 15 lbs being popular), and purchasing washable duvet covers since the blankets themselves require careful hand-washing. A recurring theme was excitement over the blankets' benefits for children with autism or sensory disorders, with parents describing dramatically improved sleep and less restlessness, alongside widespread agreement that the investment, though expensive at Β£90-Β£120, was worth every penny for the comfort and rest gained.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Which weight did you get? I thought it was the 15 lb. I think mine is heavy enough for me for now, and I plan to lose more weight before summer.
I read that the weight of the blanket becomes personal preference as well, some like more or less weight, despite the recommendations.
It's a little difficult at first settling in, partly because I have 2 little dogs & they would be in my legs area while I'm trying to get comfortable, Lol... they are spoiled little girls.πŸ˜‰
@A MyFibroTeam Member I also waited a long time to afford my blanket, so I researched about them quite a bit first. 😘

@A MyFibroTeam Member I just ordered a weighted blanket & minky duvet for it! I'm excited!
It should arrive Saturday, 😁yay! I hope it works for me, I've been awake until 4 or 5 AM most nights lately, ugh! I got the 48" x 72" size because my husband doesn't want it on his side of the bed. I'm so glad you mentioned it here, even though I've wanted to try one, but you verified that it helps. Thank you! πŸ˜™β€

Thank you. I have many great doctors that I have the privilege to work with. I know that there are many on this site that are limited with the resources that are available to them. I firmly believe that all of those who share our information will give others who are looking for information options as well as educate in what works best for each individual.

@A MyFibroTeam Member that's really good to hear.

It is very frustrating that doctors don't want to or just won't share this type of information, (weighted blankets) They seem so dismissive here especially, of anything that is not a medicine!
We only discover helpful items and treatments by our own constantly searching and a thankfully so many sharing information here.
I've had my blanket a few weeks now, and I definitely feel I sleep deeper overall.
