I have been on zolpidem for decades and it's always worked for me but now insurance is not wanting to pay for it at all I have tried every over the counter medication invented none of them work and if I don't get any sleep then I can't even move the next day what does everyone take and where do they get it from because I'm having a hard time finding a psychiatrist under this insurance

Members rallied around someone struggling to find affordable sleep medication after insurance stopped covering zolpidem, sharing a wide range of prescription options that have worked for them, including amitriptyline, trazodone, mirtazapine, triazolam, and zopiclone. Several members emphasized that amitriptyline has been life-changing for achieving seven hours of unbroken sleep, while others noted that mirtazapine and trazodone worked when nothing else did, and one member discovered through a sleep study that undiagnosed hypopnea was the root cause of their insomnia. A recurring theme was frustration with insurance barriers and the ineffectiveness of over-the-counter options, balanced by encouragement to keep advocating for solutions and exploring prescription alternatives through primary care doctors or specialists.

That can happen Kathy. When you take something for so long, your body can become immune to it and it just stops working. Hope you find relief soon. Hugs

I take 50mg of amitriptylene every night and it has been a life changer! For years I’d wake up in pain but exhausted and when I’d finally fall back asleep, it would only be for an hour or two. Now I get at least seven hours of unbroken sleep and it feels amazing!! I don’t know where I’d be without it cause I was at my wits end!!

My neurologist prescribed Mirtazapine. Makes me sleepy within an hour of taking it.

I use amitriptyline also. It has helped me to not roll all night (which my husband appreciates) but lately I think I may be getting to immune to it as I am hurting a lot more when I wake up. I also know that I feel awful the next morning if I don't take it.

The best sleep I had was amytriptiline which is an old school antidepressants but is prescribed for pain. My only problem was it knocked me out so I couldn't move when I woke up as I don't think I moved at all during the night so I had to stop it but was best sleep ever.
