I deal with both motion sickness (pretty much a constant when I get in a car, I have shares in gravol 😬) and these occasional awful bouts of vertigo. First one was six years ago and lasted four very long months. Would crawl from the bed to the sofa in the morning and wait for my husband to come home from work, couldn't do anything without dizziness/imbalance, constant nausea, some vomiting, and constant headache. Trying to close eyes and sleep is a special hell, might as well get on a boat in a… read more

Members connected over the debilitating experience of vertigo with fibromyalgia, sharing how it manifests as constant dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, and an inability to drive or function normally for weeks or months at a time. Several members found relief through different approaches, including the Epley maneuver performed by a skilled ENT, chiropractic care that reduced symptoms by 95%, meclizine for acute episodes, and addressing neck and shoulder tightness that can trigger dizziness. A recurring theme was the frustration of not knowing whether vertigo stems from fibromyalgia itself, viral infections like labyrinthitis, or migraine variants, along with the deep emotional toll of losing independence and feeling isolated during extended bouts.

Sedonablu, I too think this is FM related, I think virus's that cause vertigo hit some of us with FM a lot harder and longer. Also, I have been told by a neurologist that certain types of migraine can represent as vertigo, and migraines have been a constant in my life for twenty plus years.
I had back-to-back german measles and viral meningitis when vertigo hit last time. I didn't drive either, for a full year, because of it. It was four months of constant vertigo, then another eight months or so for the episodes to gradually diminish and then stop.
In between the really bad bouts of vertigo I have consistent motion sickness and nausea in the car, but it is actually somewhat alleviated by being the person doing the driving. I am lucky I guess, that so far the really bad bouts of vertigo are years apart.
I saw my doctor a couple of days ago, he confirmed this latest episode is not BPV. Possibly labrynthitis from a virus, but to my knowledge I have not been sick. Mind you, often my FM symptoms mimic the flu, so who knows. I spend my life not knowing if the latest physical issue I am dealing with is because of FM, or because of a separate health issue and being exacerbated by FM - I find it one of the most frustrating things about dealing with this disease.
I am really sorry you are suffering with this too. I wouldn't wish it on anyone!
Very gentle hugs,
PJ

You described my life. It's like this everyday for me. I'm so depressed. I lay in bed almost all day because of the dizziness and the anxiety it brings. I used to be active and healthy. Now I have no life at all.

When I was diagnosed with fibro, I had bouts of vertigo. Still do sometimes. But 2 years ago, I started seeing a chiropractor a few times a week. He made my vertigo and headaches go away 95%! Like, the car sickness I had had all my life even left. I could read a book in a car!!!

I get vertigo often, but I believe it related to tightness in my neck and shoulders. When my neck and shoulders are extremely tight I become dizzy, lose my balance and feel nauseous.

I have had it cured with the Epley maneuver (position therapy) by very skilled ENT but I have good friend who just ends up doing the time for it to go away. My view ithe Epley is worth a try but it isn’t my decision. Hope however you go it resolves quickly. 💜
