Hi everyone
I have been dealing with bad flares of Trigeminal neuralgia. My doctor originally prescribed a low dose of carbamazepine but it was knocking me out and making my pain worse. Especially at night. Hi Nancy. I was given Gabapentin at one point but my extremities started jerking uncontrollably and I would stutter sometimes. It was the weirdest thing. Then they put me on Lyrica but unfortunately I had the same side effects, uncontrollable legs jumping, stuttering, and other things. When I stopped taking these medications the side effects went away. I hope they find something that will help. Good luck hon.
Idk if they are simply trying to hold you over for some reason but my dad has severe trigeminal neuralgia and had surgery many years ago where they actually cover the nerve with Teflon. It worked brilliantly for him. The first thing he said when he woke up after surgery was that his teeth didn’t hurt anymore. He had been in so much pain before surgery that he was vomiting simply from pain. It was horrible. He hasn’t had any trouble since. Maybe a possibility for you???
Thank you Melodie, that's good to know. And great for you Dad. 😊
