And whether recovery time for other illness is significantly longer? This may be a very silly question, but is the immune system of a person who has been diagnosed with fibro compromised? I have never been as ill, with other ailments than i have the past couple months, all related to the chest and bronchial tract...from bronchitis to thinking i was well, to pneumonia and then laryngitis? And of course, while going through these other issues the fibro flare ups are just so much worse :-(
I have noticed that it takes me longer to get over viruses.
My family will get colds but mine always last longer or turns into something else’s.
Fibromyalgia is not considered an autoimmune disease.
My Rheumatologist refers to it as a neurological syndrome.
If your body is fighting pain you are in a weakened state so it makes sense that you would be more susceptible to getting sick.
I hope this helps.
Hang in there!!
While fibromyalgia does not “cause” an impaired immune system, it's clear to see how they relate to each other. The same factors that create an impaired immune system can also open the door to health challenges such as fibromyalgia, autoimmune concerns, and chronic disease.
Yes having fibromyalgia does compromise the immune system. You must be careful about avoiding people that are ill with respiratory tract infections etc. because I think that we are at more risk to contract something than others who are well But I don’t think that it follows for someone to be ill with a string of things all of the time because they have fibromyalgia. Do you get what I mean?
@A MyFibroTeam Member Thank you, makes a lot of sense!
