Hi everyone. So as the guy in the desk next to me keeps blowing his nose and sneezing with an admitted cold, I started to think. Is this new fibromyalgia I have going to make me more susceptible to getting sick, colds etc?

Members shared mixed experiences about whether fibromyalgia makes them more susceptible to getting sick, with many noting that while they don't necessarily catch colds more often, illnesses hit harder, last significantly longer, and trigger worse muscle aches and flares when they do occur. Several members offered practical strategies including maintaining distance from sick people, taking daily vitamin C, getting annual flu shots, using hand sanitizer frequently, wiping down surfaces with disinfectant, and wearing masks during cold and flu season. A recurring theme was the importance of self-care and vigilance since weakened immune systems mean recovery takes much longer, with some members describing week-long recoveries compared to a few days for others.

I have noticed I don't get sick often but if I do its hard and long so I try to stay away from anyone that might expose me to any illnesses.

It should not. Retired nurse here. If you are eating well and taking good care of yourself your chances of getting sick are on par with any other normal person.

My insides freeze when I hear someone sneeze anywhere in a store or anywhere. I want to run. I am very susceptible to infections. MRSA 2X I under a year, near died both times. Contagious Disease Specialist says I'm a carrier now. Can't give it to anyone, just means I watch for the first signs all the time so I can call him fast and he'll admit me. As I cannot take most antibiotics now or pain meds, it makes even treating one hard, dangerous. The last infection they didn't test, just gave broad spectrum and now the 1 that saved my life twice I can no longer take.
Both times 8 days in hospital I don't remember.
We don't have much of an immune system to fight with. And when I do go down, it's BAM! Fast, hard and over a week just to be able to sit up instead of lay down. Weak longer still. Yes, hurt every muscle and joint.
Friend I worked for made it a rule that if you have even a sniffle, stay home. He knows I can't fight things, and it's a precaution for everyone, not just me.
Fibro diagnosed 1998, MRSA 2000. Before 2000 I'd end up on the floor unable to get up for days. Crawl, lay down, wake, crawl, etc. CFS, fibro kept getting worse til hospital became more often, then 2000.
It's the reason I have panic attacks about going to a store or if someone tells me too late, O I'm sick.
😨
I know jobs are needed, but people need to think they could literally kill someone around them. Like me.
Be careful, dear friend.
