I just stated taking duloxetine 30mg this morning, and so far have been switching between excessive energy/jitteryness and being tired all day. The phharmacist told me it's hard to tell if the side effects will go away on their own, since they're not super common like nausea/dizziness, and to call my rheumatologist on Mon and let him know what's going on. Has anyone else had similar effects from Cymbalta, and if so, how long did they take to go away, if at all?

Members shared mixed experiences with starting Cymbalta for fibromyalgia, with many confirming that the jittery, restless energy followed by exhaustion is a common initial side effect that typically resolves within a few days to two weeks. Several members offered practical strategies, including switching to extended-release formulations, taking the medication at night instead of morning, and pairing it with muscle relaxants, magnesium, or vitamin D to help manage side effects and improve sleep. A recurring theme was that while some found Cymbalta helpful for nerve pain, depression, or fibromyalgia symptoms after pushing through the adjustment period, others had to discontinue it due to persistent side effects like nightmares, restlessness, or lack of effectiveness, with the community emphasizing the importance of staying in close contact with doctors during the trial period.

It will take a week to 10 days for the side effects to go away. It is also better to take Cymbalta at night before you sleep. After a week or so, if your doctor switch you to 60 mg, also ask for a muscle relaxant (Tizanidine), vitamin D & magnesium. Magnesium is a sleep booster. All of them will help decrease the flares, aches & pain.

I’ve been taking Cymbalta for a number of years now And have not really had any noticeable side effects from it at the 60 mg a day dose except for some constipation which is easily dealt with. Other than that your doctor and your pharmacist are your best liaisons when starting any new medications. Cymbalta is one of the very few recommended medications for fibromyalgia pain. It is also used for depression

I have and the only way it went away for me was when I stopped taking this medication. Lyrica did the same as well.
