Members shared the deeply isolating experience of having spouses or partners who struggle to understand the invisible pain of fibromyalgia, with many describing feeling dismissed, minimized, or alone even within their own homes. Several members offered practical strategies that helped bridge the understanding gap, including bringing partners to doctor appointments, sharing educational resources or videos about fibromyalgia, and considering couples therapy to create space for open communication. A recurring theme was the need to find understanding within the fibromyalgia community itself, as those who live with chronic pain truly grasp what others are going through in ways that loved ones often cannot.

Yes. Same here. Its hard for them to understand because they arent feeling what we are. A lot of times i dont think he thinks im being serious or telling the truth. Like he just thinks im making this stuff up as i go along, which i know fibro symptoms can be crazy and all over the place but i dont make stuff up. I know how frustrating it can be. Then its almost like they get resentment towards you, because you are always in pain and they THINK its effecting their lives. Its like do YALL even have even the slightest clue what we are going thru?! (They dont)

Hi me again! So I did something yesterday and I think it helped. Im very close with my friends but they get very uncomfy when I talk about my health and such. Just talk to him. Any awkwardness or what seems like not caring is probably them just not understanding. Send information or like I said before bringnto appointments. It might help, helped with my friends.

Yes..after 18 years of having Fibro,,I have noticed most people do not understand and can not relate.Unless someone has it,,its really hard to understand the life with Fibro. It is better to have Fibro friends who you can share with,,because they live it and understand. For myself, now that I have Fibro,I can see when others in pain, regardless their condition,Fibro really helped me open my eyes and heart to others who experience pain.Seems true to most things, unless you have experienced it..it only words

Im so sorry to hear this. I dont know how people manage this with unsuportive spouses/partners. It must be so hard!!! My partner also has Fibro so we understand each others pain. I couldnt do it without the support.
