Anybody Had The Shingles Vaccine?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

The last time I went to my GP she gave me a script to have the shingles vaccine. I have know a number of people who contracted shingles and it sounds absolutely awful for those without FM or other chronic illnesses, so I can imagine it would be much worse for people with FM.

Anybody here have the vaccine? if so, how was it? Were there a lot of bad side effects?

I'm interested to know what others' experiences have been as I still have not gone to get it done. I've been in a flare and don't… read more

I never got the shingles shot and one of my biggest regrets Ever!!! had shingles from Nov of 2017 to April of 2018 and it has left me with Neuropathy in my foot. It was the worst 5 months of my life, it the worst pain ever and exasperated my Fibro terribly. If it weren’t for my husband I don’t know what I would have done. Pleeese get shingles shot.. there’s no guarantee but it’s better than not. You can only get shingles if you’ve had chicken pox when little.. that virus stays in our bodies. Shingles is contagious.. my husband had never had chicken pox so he didn’t catch it. I had to stay in the house for 5 mos. my case was severe. It’s extremely hard for me to even talk about still. It’s been 6 months since, and I still feel effects.. meaning.. Neuropathy, and weakness, and my Fibro getting worse. Pleeese get shingles shot💜💜💜!!!

The shingles shot that is available now is a new one and supposed to be much better than the old one. My doctor told me it is cheaper to get it at Walgreens than for her to give it to me so she wrote me a prescription and my co-pay is $25. I haven't gotten it yet but I'm going to because I had shingles about 8 years ago and they were a nightmare.

Thanks to all of you for your answers and encouragement. Glad to hear there are little to no side effects. I waited only because I’m in a flare and didn’t want to make it worse. I did get the prescription for the new shingles vaccine. I feel like I should run out and get this now! I will do it this weekend 💕

I had the vaccine a couple of years ago because I decided I didn't want shingles jangling my nerves along with fibro.

The cost of the vaccine is a little pricey, but cheaper than the meds you'd need if you got shingles and worth every penny to avoid (or greatly decrease) the pain of shingles.

I had no after-effects except peace of mind knowing I had one less thing I'd have to endure.

Hugs
Jan
