Does Your Fibromyalgia Cause Muscle Pain OR Weakness??
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Guys, could someone please please help me. I want to know if I truly have Fibromyalgia or something else. I have been diagnosed with it, but a lot of people say they suffer with pain whereas I suffer with weakness rather than a sense of pain. What is the pain supposed to feel like exactly
I'm unsure what the difference should be. I'm chronically fatigued and my stomach and legs always get swollen, but i feel I'm more weak than pain... like I wouldn't say I can't life weights or i have shooting… read more

Hi SophieB333, Fibromyalgia causes both muscle pain and muscle weakness. Mine started this year with muscle weakness on both my left and right upper arms. And then after that the shooting pain starts all over my body, and tingling/ numbness on both feet.

Fibromialgia is a pain syndrome by definition. In Oder to be diagnosed you need to have wide spread pain at least the past six month (among many other criterias). Yes, muscle weakness or feeling of muscle weakness could be part of fibromialgia symptoms. Keep the pressure on your doctors and request a thorough work up based on your symptoms. Fibromialgia diagnosis is based on excluding other illnesses by eliminating the possibilities one by one with medical exams, blood work, imaging clarifying the source of your symptoms. Swelling sounds something you seriously need to further investigate, again depending on your other symptoms, age , risk factors and by considering pre- existing medical problems.

I definitely have had pain since the beginning but the degree of pain and many areas of my body have been added since I was first diagnosed! Yes it feels like terrible muscle pain but sometimes it feels like the throbbing is from the blood in your veins being pumped and hurts so much with each pulse! I am thankful I don’t get migraines but can hurt anywhere from my ears down! Yes the fatigue is terrible cause your body is constantly fighting the pain so you are always tired! Here’s hoping you don’t have fibro, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!!

Hi Sophie
Tja next doctor you go to DONT tell him you have fibromyalgia. Just tell him your symptoms. Don't put yourself in a box.
Fibromyalgia is associated with other problems like vasculitis of the veins which make legs swell and also irritable bowel syndrome which make tummy swell. Fibromyalgia makes you very tired.
Let the doctor sort it out. Good luck!
