Members rallied around someone asking if they could get financial help to pay a friend's carer who assists with shopping, hospital trips, and housework during flare-ups, with overwhelming advice to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which can provide over £500 monthly without affecting other benefits like ESA. Several members shared practical guidance including contacting hospital benefits advisors, checking with GP surgeries for walk-in benefits appointments, exploring social services, and reaching out to organizations like Benefits and Work for detailed information on disability support. A recurring theme was the community's warmth in reassuring the member that asking for help is not silly, offering personal contact information for one-on-one support, and expressing solidarity around the challenges of living alone, managing multiple health conditions, and navigating a complicated benefits system while maintaining independence and dignity.

Hi it sort of depends on your circumstances. You should definitely apply for pip be aware it can be a very long process. This opens up lots of other options some of them are only available in certain areas. In an area with universal credit you need to apply for the disability element or if not in such area you should apply for ESA. Once you have done this it opens up lots of other options so probably best to go on the DWP website and look into benefits for disabled people. There is an excellent website called benefits and work they can tell you so much more I believe that if you claim carers allowance it would be deducted from your payments so if you are having help on a as and when needed basis so you would probably be better paying it yourself hope this helps xXx

Hi Hun you should be receiving pip as well it might be worth you mentioning at your hospital appointment that you are struggling. Most hospitals employ someone to help with benefits and they will help you with applying if you apply for pip you could be entitled to over £500 per month and it doesn’t effect your other benefits. Also my gp surgery actually has a benefits advisor at the surgery where people can either make appointments or they have walk in appointments. I think you would benefit from seeing someone along these lines so may be worth trying to find out if there is anything available in the area you live in good luck xXx

Dependent on where you live and what you earn, if it’s below £110 a week you should get carers allowance to pay the carers, personal independence payments (PIP), housing benefit & Employment support allowance (ESA) or it may all come under universal credit. If you need any advice please email me on (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators) I live on these benefits as my husband had to give up work to care for me. You could also get occupational therapy to come in and see what adaptions you need for your home, which they pay for. I can give you loads of info if you want to email me @A MyFibroTeam Member xx

I would look into social services from your government or city, and see what is available.
