Advantages Vs Disadvantages Of Lyrica And/or Cymbalta
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I go back to the doctors tomorrow. I've seen many posts pro and con on both Lyrica and Cymbalta. I've only been on Cymbalta, this time for 3 weeks, but Lyrica a few months. Shortly after I started Lyrica, the doctors took me off all meds, I only did so for 1 day, and noticed a significant increase in pain. So, not too keen in stopping again.

Though, I am in intense pain still, regardless. So...Pros/Cons of Lyrica and/or Cymbalta?

Maybe, just getting the migraines and depression under… read more

Gaberpentin also called nurotin? Spell check that? I been on cymbalta for yrs, 120 mg daily, I was told it changed the way the nurotransmitters fire? Don't know, I jus know Lyrica caused all kinds of bad things for me, yes I gained weight, however I'm working on losing it starting weight in Feb was276, down to 248, not a lot but also knee replacement surgery during this time too ,

Was on Lyrica mornings and Cymbalta at night. Recently saw rheumatologist, what a blessing. Weaned off Lyrica, taking Cymbalta twice daily instead. Feeling better. Rheumatologist knew my symptoms, understood, and treated me with respect.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, I'm seesawing. I've been dealing w/ all of this on my own for decades, and lately, putting all my resources towards my son instead. Only recently deciding I needed more help for myself, but already, not seeing the point.

I just don't have the energy, to fight doctors and insurance companies, and trial and error on meds. I don't see relief in sight, that'll make it worth it to me. Monster man will be 18 in 5 and half years. I just have to hang on that long.

Reading the posts on here, it's been a little too much. The symptoms described, I'm tired of thinking, huh I have that. But instead of just having flares for periods of time, I've had the symptoms for decades straight.

Have 3 doctor appts tomorrow, may think differently once I talk with them. Doubtful. Then, taking Monster man to the doctor. He, apparently, now has migraines, on top of his other issues. Poor mite.

Wish you a peaceful night, and an even better tomorrow.

Again, thank you for reaching out - Sam

Hmm ~ I only read about Gabapentin from those outside of the US, I need to check if it's known by another name here, interesting.

And, thanks for the heads up about the 6 weeks for the Cymbalta, I've allowed the lack of progress on the pain, to get me down today, possibly because I go back to the doctors tomorrow.

Also, as others were discussing in other posts, I have a difficult time swallowing, and Cymbalta, for me, is difficult to swallow.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, Hope you have a great evening and an even better tomorrow, 'night - Sam

I just visited my doctor today to adjust my meds. From how it's been explained to me... Cymbalta works on your brain chemistry to help send new messages to your body. Lyrica works on the nerves to decrease pain. I have been on 60 mg Cymbalta, and that was increased to 90 today; and I've been taking 50 mg of Lyrica in the evening for the past week. The first few days on Lyrica were like taking Ecstacy. It was CRAZY!! The past few days, it just knocks me right out and I get a full night's sleep. The drawback with Lyrica is that it elevates my body temperature and my blood pressure a bit. Nothing to be TOO concerned yet, but we're keeping watch. Of course, both of these drugs cause weight gain (boo) and that makes everything harder on your joints as well.

I used to suffer from intense migraines - but when I eliminated gluten and artificial sweeteners, I've never had another problem. Take a look at your diet for potential causes of the migraines. I have also experienced depression and have found great comfort and made good progress working with a psychologist who specializes in chronic illness. Please seek help and don't think that willpower will make you "get over it."

Good luck + blessings <3
