I have recently been diagnosed with severly torn tendons in my shoulder and bicep
And am considering trying PRP ( Platelet Rich Plasma ) Treatment as an alternative to surgery
During my research on this I have also read some articles on how it may be useful for fibromyalgia
Does anyone know anything about this treatment ?
And has anyone ever tried it
I am interested to know if it helped in anyway
Thanks from Karen 🍁

Members shared mixed experiences and insights about PRP treatment for torn shoulder tendons, with one member reporting that her cousin had excellent results as an alternative to rotator cuff surgery, while another member found it unsuccessful for a two-year-old elbow tendon injury, suggesting it may work best when the injury is six months old or less. Several members mentioned significant out-of-pocket costs since many insurance companies do not cover PRP or similar regenerative treatments, though one member was able to get coverage through workers' compensation. A recurring theme was the community's supportive spirit, with members offering prayers, alternative remedies like ginger and ginseng tea, and encouragement to carefully weigh all options with medical guidance.

I had 2 PRPs done for a torn elbow tendon. There are two important things to mention. First I was having it done under workers comp so my case manager fought to have the insurance pay for it. It did. Second my injury was 2 years old which is why my case manager thinks it didn't work. He feeling was it probably only worked if the injury was 6 months or less.
The process is they extract 55 cc of blood. Spin it down to 3-4 cc of plasma and inject it into the damaged area. I won't say it wasn't uncomfortable because they had to move the needle around without taking it totally out. Hope this helped.

Hello....I wanted to try this treatment too but my insurance would not pay for any of it. In
PRP your blood is drawn and then put in a (centrifuge) this separates the components in your blood. Only the PRP is used for the injection.
If you decide to go this route please let me know how you do.......another treatment that was mentioned by my doctor was Prolotherapy.......I posted a question about it on this site.....but after reading several posts saying it was very painful I decided not to even try it...but my insurance would not pay for it either.....I'm hoping some insurance companies will pay some of the cost to help others who want to try these treatments.....
Good Luck to you! Linda
