Members shared widespread experience with crushing rib pain in fibromyalgia, with the overwhelming consensus identifying it as costochondritis, an inflammation of the rib cage that can mimic heart attack symptoms and requires medical evaluation to rule out serious concerns. Several members described practical relief strategies including switching to comfortable sports bras or going braless when possible, using deep breathing exercises during pain flares, taking Tylenol, and working with chiropractors or pain specialists for ongoing management. A recurring theme was the unpredictable and intense nature of this pain, with members describing sensations of being beaten, squeezed by a snake, or crushed by an elephant, while offering each other encouragement to stay strong and seek proper diagnosis despite the challenging and diverse symptoms fibromyalgia brings.

Costochondritis is common with us that have Fibro. I have a couple of ribs that tend to pop out of joint as my Chiro would adjust my spine. I still have that poplem from time to time. Costochondritis can also feel like you're having a heart attack.

It sounds like Cosco chondritis. It's an inflammation of the ribcage area. Very painful. It took me 2 er visits feeling like I was having a heart attack before they diagnosed me. But its always better to be safe than sorry. Get it checked out so you know for sure. Good luck. Hugs

oh yes! Sometimes it feels as though someone is poking me all over my ribs. It is nerve pain. I noticed it happens if I wear a bra too long. I try to wear a comfortable sports bra if I must ear a bra. Fibromyalgia is a weird animal. The symptoms are so diverse because it is related to neurotransmitters that affect so many different area of the body. Like serotonin, it helps control sleep, endorphins (for pain control and comfort) and mood. I find the only thing I can do when I get an all of a sudden attack of pain like you are describing is to close my eyes and deep breath till the edge comes off. Hope you feel better soon. May God be with you and be your Comforter.

Gentle hugs from Penny

Yep! Inflammation of rib cage and ligaments. Mine is also tender to touch. I have a clicking rib as well. My doctor explained that the ligaments that hold the ribs are loose elastic like. Hurts bending over. It is supposedly rare but not uncommon in fibro patients.
