Members overwhelmingly disagreed with the idea that pain medications don't help fibromyalgia, sharing a wide variety of treatments that have provided relief, including Tramadol, fentanyl patches, Percocet, Lyrica, pregabalin, low-dose naltrexone (LDN), medical marijuana (particularly indica strains or CBD oil), and Savella. Many members expressed frustration with doctors reducing opioid prescriptions due to new guidelines and the opioid epidemic, emphasizing that some people genuinely need these medications to function and work, even if they don't eliminate pain completely. A recurring theme was the importance of finding what works for your individual body, advocating for yourself with medical providers, and considering a new doctor if the current one dismisses your pain or refuses to help you find relief.

I agree with mkathryn's comment .I think your pain management Dr. is wrong also. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with fibro , but I know I have had it much longer than that and I have a very low dose hydrocodone 5 mg. it definitely helps and I am very careful not to use it unless I really need it. I have been a hairstylist for 42 years and I LOVE what I do , but I could NOT work without it......

I am sorrry that your doctor is ignorant. Find a new one. I really wish these doctors could feel our pain for 24 hours to see what we live with daily. Then they could see that we need something for pain. I hope you find something that helps your pain.hugs

Oh my goodness, R (not using your full name from your intro since you didn't post it here), you need to FIRE that doc. Absolutely unreal that he or she would say that. Looks like that doc is one of the ones that thinks this is all in our heads.

May I suggest that you check out Low Dose Naltrexone - LDN. The typical dose and use of Naltrexone is 50 mg used to get people off opioid addiction. The low dose is 1.7 to 5 mg. and has been extremely successful in pain management in fibromyalgia as well as many other conditions. Easily researched, just google - type in either the full name or LDN. There are dozens of studies ongoing and it is proving helpful in many different illnesses and conditions. It works for almost everyone with no side effects.

Probably worth checking out the CBD (marijuana derivitave) oil too, if you can get it legally. Also currently being researched and found very effective for many.

I'm a retired nurse and have been taking LDN for a few years now, with almost amazing relief. Not no pain, but now on a good day, pain is 2-4 out of 10, vs. previous daily pain 6-9/10 and many days where it was all I could do not to scream, the pain was so bad.

I agree ☝️, my pain management Dr. Prescribes pain meds for me as well, without it my days can be unbearable. I suggest you find a different pain Dr. Many are wanting to get away from prescribing opioids because of the "epidemic"! Unfortunately that leaves those of us that truly need it for pain management out in the cold at times.
