Regarding Drugs, Etc.

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Bottom line, if I lived on Vicodin I probably wouldn't have the pain.
But then there r the side effects like constiiation.
I guess I feel sad because a cousin of mine asked me why can't you travel to Canada to see my family.
I told him chronic pain & fibro.
Not sure if he quite understands.
But do I want to travel, of course.
It just takes so much out of me & then I get sicker.

Members shared deeply personal experiences navigating chronic pain and fibromyalgia while trying to maintain some semblance of normal life, including travel to see loved ones. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them manage pain during trips, including requesting wheelchair assistance at airports, taking trains instead of driving to reduce stress, timing prednisone tapers around travel dates, managing opioid-related constipation with fruit and water, and planning for altitude and humidity changes that can trigger flares. A recurring theme was the emotional weight of feeling misunderstood by family members who don't grasp the severity of chronic conditions, balanced by the determination to show up for important moments when possible and the wisdom to know one's limits without guilt.

I don't take Vicodin often.
Only when pain is very great & if other things like Cbd & marijuana don't work.
What did u use to travel for your pain?

I take methadone & have since 2002. The constipation problem is almost avoided by eating apples, prunes, cottage cheese & peaches. . . I eat a lot of fruit & drink tons of water. Every once in a while I have to take something to help, but not all the time. The problems we have just trying to be ‘normal’ would drive a well person crazy 😜

Would your doctor consider giving you prednisone for 15 days, so that you would be able to travel? ( a prednisone taper. 20 mg a day for 5 days, 10 mg for 5 days, 5 mg for 5 days) It would temporarily give you some strength.
