Hi everyone! So these past couple of months have been really tough. My dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer which metastisized and unfortunately he passed away a week ago. The greiving process has been tough... my dad raised me so you can imagine how close we were. Being diagnosed with fibro and losing a parent in one year has been beyond exhausting so my husband wanted to treat me to a vacation in tahiti for 3 weeks. As a person who wasnt sick this would be a dream way to unwind, however i… read more
I hope you enjoy your trip. Let your husband take care of you. He wants to help. Let him. You need it right now.
Traveling has always been hard for me. I have found that I need to get up and move around as often as possible. If we are driving that means sometimes as often as every hour. Usually I can go two hours. I haven't done too much flying but I would think you should be ok as long as you can get up and walk around fairly often. There are a lot of things that can make you more comfortable when you travel. It depends on which areas of your body give you the most trouble. I have small pillows to put under my arms to relieve the pressure from my shoulders also a folding footstool to put under my feet to get my legs up so there isn't so much pressure on my legs and hips.
I hope you have a great vacation. My dad also died from cancer and I too was very close to him. I keep him in my thoughts often. He always gave me good advise and I try to follow it even though he isn't here anymore. He always said you should find something to laugh about every day and you should get a hug a day to keep you healthy. I love that I still have so much of him with me. As long as you dad is in your thoughts you haven't lost him. He still watches over you.
I found flexiril to be helpful before my 3 hour flight recently. Also earplugs for over stimulation. Having a blanket and pillow are other good suggestions for the travel part. I was disappointed in my first day of vacation because pain limited my activity. For this I advise you to plan accordingly, don't expect to hit the ground running. Give yourself time to adjust and recover from the travel.
3 weeks is a long trip and you should enjoy it! Don't beat yourself up for not being able to do things. Take each day as it comes and find joy in the little things.
Hugs and prayers that you have a restful trip.
First of all, let me tell you how sorry I am for your loss, and can empathize as I lost my own Dad 4 years ago. It feels like yesterday.
Your husband is trying his hardest to bring you some happiness. It is a very long time to be on an airplane, so preparing for that should be paramount. I have only been on domestic flights with fibromyalgia and what I remember most acutely was how crowded I felt. The airplane was wall to wall people crammed in like sardines in a can. If you can get seats that are higher in status than coach, please do. Having more room will make traveling a lot easier; you'll be able to get up and down to stretch more often. Be sure to stay hydrated, wear compression hose (even if you're young), have a travel pillow and light blanket in your carryon (your germs), and maybe ask your doctor for a sleep aid so you can sleep part of the trip. Ear plugs can help with the noise (which is considerable). These are my suggestions. Once you get to your destination, you can rest and be waitef on. Have a wonderful time. ❤
I am extremely saddened to hear about the loss of your father. You need to grieve. Do you really want to go on vacation or just have more time to process what you are feeling. When I lost my dad, I think that is when I developed fibro.
If I can do anything or you need to talk please look me up. I lost my dad to brain cancer that spread to his lungs........horrible.
