I was diagnosed with TMJ disorder about four months ago. Physical therapy helped very much plus the isometric home exercises on a daily basis. I also stopped chewing gum & eating hard crunchy foods and changed to a softer diet. I used an OTC mouth block which really didn't help so I make a conscious effort to keep my jaw relaxed if at all possible. Clenching teeth at night still happens from time to time and I wake up with jaw pain, headache, ears popping and balance problems. Meditation/relaxation/hypnosis podcasts for sleep problems is beneficial. CBD oil or or cannabis infused ointment products or a gummy right before bedtime is too.

Have TMJ also for 45 years along with fibro. Oral surgeon gave me exercises to help the pain. I use heat when it flares up.

I have severe problems with TMJ and facial pain as well. At night its the worst. I do gentle messaging, i use biofreeze ointment on my jaw, face, neck all over as well as a heat pad and pain/anxiety meds just to try to sleep. My last flare lasted from xmas till end of March. Just brutal. I finally have it calmed down for now but have to be careful not to eat hard food nor chew gum. I'm scared it'll come back.

Also guilty of having TMJ and fibro. LOL. Have it for so many years but the TMJ is getting worse now that I am getting older. Sometimes the pain literally makes me sick at my stomach and the headaches that go with it........Thank you for the heat tip.

Yes, the diagnosis is TMJ. Tempomandibular joint problem. It can be horrible painful. DO NOT CHEW GUM. EVER! It is like your jaw gets out of alignment. Or at least that is what I have. Jaw pain. ear ache and blinding headache. Sometimes it can happen just from chewing. I have pain pills for mine. Have u ever gone to your Doctor for them? Or your dentist? Hope u get a chance to have it checked out.
