Members shared practical strategies for building morning routines that work with chronic illness, with many emphasizing flexibility over rigid schedules because energy levels and pain vary day to day. Several members described helpful approaches including hydrating first thing, showering the night before appointments, taking pain medication early and going back to sleep so it kicks in before getting up, using checklists to reduce mental load, and scheduling no more than two activities per day to avoid burnout. A recurring theme was the importance of giving yourself grace when routines fall apart, listening to your body without guilt, and finding small anchor points like feeding pets, drinking coffee, or opening curtains for natural light that gently structure the day without adding pressure.

Well, I work full time. But on the weekends it just depends on how I feel. Making a list of what I would like to accomplish helps me. Then I prioritize each item on the list. Making lists really helps me because once I write it down I don’t have to remember it, which keeps me from getting so s stressed.

Hi, I take pain meds every 12 hours and by trial and error I have found that if I take my pain pill at 5:15am and then go right back to sleep until 6:45 when my alarm goes off, that way i feel good enough to get up, because the pill has started working. I usually go right back to sleep after taking my a.m.pill. I get up at 6 :45 and i get my shower done so I am ready to go. I have my breakfast and read the paper. I try to schedule dr. appointments in the late morning early in the week. This leaves the end of the week open to make plans with friends. I have a cleaning lady that comes every other Monday and I try to do laundry on Wednesday. I feel that when I have a schedule it is easier to get motivated to get things done. Sure, there are always exceptions ( Like today, I haven't felt good and didn't even get dressed). But I have always been very organized. Hope this helps in some way.

I get up & feed my cats. While my coffee is brewing I clean the litter box. I then wash up, get the paper & read my morning devotionals & then the paper. After that I have breakfast.
The rest of the day is up for grabs. It depends on what I can do. How I feel & my pain & fatigue Level. I don't sweat the small stuff anymore. If it has to wait so be it! If I need help I ask for it. Like today 😰😰 my friend brought me lunch.
I live alone so I have had to accept my limitations on certain days. This was TOUGH!! I don't think too many of us have a.set routine but I could be wrong!

I schedule things on my calendar. I do try to keep Tuesday an Thursday open to exercise. On Mondays I have a health group that I attend. Drs appointments I try to schedule in the afternoon on wed or Friday. I have had a lot of trouble getting up before 10 am because I have so much trouble sleeping. In order to get enough rest, I let myself sleep in. Going to the store has to be scheduled in when I don't have any other appointments, or sometimes I can stop on my way home from the Dr. I can't do more than 2 things on a day. So my limit would be a Drs appointment and the store. I use a fold up dolly and box to get the groceries in from the car. I can only make the trip in, I don't have enough energy to make a trip back out. I try to take showers the night before an appointment. It's too hard for me to get up and shower before the Dr.
Hope this helps.
