@A MyFibroTeam Member Interesting, I don't have dry skin.and have been on the same thyroid med for some time. Also I went over seas twice for several weeks different water, climate, food, the works. At the time I thought it was an allergic reaction so did my GP. However after trying every possible alternative like changing washpower and so on , including allergy tests which came out negative it indicated the itch was not due to a reaction to something in the environment The itch is strange its a travelling itch It can be behind my knees than jump to my scalp, then fingers, wrist and so on very very fast multiple places. I have a friend in Wellington who has the same type of symptom except hers is pain that travels around the body. My itch is progressing and sometimes it feels like multiple pin pricks. I think it could be misfiring of nerves under the skin.

@DianePhilips, it is interesting that the one thing we all have in common is taking thyroid hormones. I wonder if a medication side effect is itching? I do know an excellent moisturizer for dry skin that is easily available: CeraVe. It has no scent and has taken away the burning sensation in my toes when I have it.

Thank you both. It seems that a body itch may be part of Fibro. I Have to take medication for my thyroid and the prednisone is something I had to argue the the case for it really helps the stiffness particulary in my hands which was very bad. I did ask my GP why the two types of antihestimine ( sorry spelling) work I should say we elimiated an allergic reaction) when my itching is not being caused by a reaction to something. He explained they drugs have other functions. If the itching is not controlled it is severe and I can't scratch it because it makes it far worse. Its been pretty constant if I focus on it I know its there.

I have this itching and it drives me crazy. Although I had to see an endocrinologist for my thyroid and since he put me on a medicine for hyperthyroidism, ...the dry skin and itchyness seems to have decreased. It's not all the way gone but he's considering putting me on a stronger thyroid med and who knows...maybe it will go away.

I can understand you wanting to get off prednisone. It just ravages the body over time. You may have gone this route already, but have you considered being allergic to something your skin is always exposed to? At a certain point I started itching all over, and I thought I was going to have a repeat of a lot of itching I had early in my illness. (I had this over 20 years). But I soon.discovered it was the scent in my laundry detergent. Once I started using scent-free detergent my problem stopped. I have very sensitive skin. A drug allergy once caused me to have such horrendous full body itching, only prednisone stopped it, but I had to go through my doctor trying different antihistamines first before the steroids. Prednisone always makes me feel Ill. God bless you.
