Yes it does I'm better moving then not moving as soon as I relax all hell breaks loose and that's an everyday thing
For me at least, walking is my main exercise & i love it. I also cycle when i can. it's what keeps me going. I go every day and do whatever distance i feel i can do. It can be as little as to the end of the street and back or as much as 10 miles! It does more to manage the pain that anything else i've tried and, as a bonus, it tends to make me feel more positive psychologically. Just remember only to do what you feel you can do. You're not in competition with anyone else.
I used to love to walk and when I first got fibro twelve years ago, I walked my dog twice a day and sometimes for miles. As my dog aged and my fibro progressed, our walks became very short and infrequent and I lost my best friend two years ago! Now I find when I try to walk, my legs are so weak and not just because I haven’t been walking as I’m still active with my grandchildren. I hate this illness!!
I had a Great Dane for nine years to make me feel guilty enough to get out and walk everyday! I’d take him out at least twice a day, some were very long walks. As he got older, I got sicker and by the end we only went out when both of us were able! I had to put him down two years ago this month which tore me apart cause he was my rock through all this. I’ve put off getting another one TIL my life settled down a bit and now I’m afraid if I get one, I won’t be able to walk like I used to because my fibro has gotten so much worse. I keep telling myself it would be okay because Great Danes don’t require a lot of exercise and the mental support I’d get would out do anything! Still in limbo but I really need to get out walking!!
I really believe that walking helps, any kind of exercise helps.
No matter how bad the pain is, l always try to keep moving, if l don't l just seize up, and then its difficult to move at all. Just do what you can xx
