Describe The Beginning Of A Flare Up
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

In the hopes of pinpointing the onset of a flare up-being new to this and all- what little clues have you learned to spot that warns you a flare up is coming? Whats the longest youve experienced?

Like others here, I can sometimes see s flare coming. I feel like I have some flu symptoms, then I can't sleep. Or I notice my chest is all inflamed and hurting a lot. It spreads to my neck, shoulders, arms and hands. I can also get pain in my back, abdomen and legs (often). I feel hot and cold. My head often hurts and my skin hurts to the touch. My hair hurts. I just shut down the best I can until.it's over otherwise it will just keep on going.

It first strikes me as headache that feels like I have a fever but I never do. I know that sounds weird but it’s hard to describe cause it’s not really a headache.

Well, I’m relatively new to the Fibro train but I think I i kinda know what a flare is now. I had to fly on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning I woke up with horrible inner thigh pain like i had been doing thigh machine exercises. Then a sensation of burning on the skin started on my neck/scalp. Then came the neck pain (feels like a pinched nerve) which for me is worse on my left side. The muscular pain only lasted for a day but then after that came fatigue and then the issue with my neck continued (plus two days of literally no sleep...they call this “wired and tired” bc you’re exhausted from the pain but still can’t sleep. So last night after watching the ceiling until 2AM, I caved and took a muscle relaxer to knock me out. Still woke up every 2 hours but was able to sooth myself back to sle with a little meditation. The muscle relaxer knocked out the neck pain (for now) but I’m sure it will creep back in once the medicine fully wears off. Thinking about ordering an orthopedic / spine pillow to cradle my head/neck. Right now I’m using a cloth neck brace which seems to help. Just so disappointed it has come to this . I’m sure I look super attractive to my husband but I seem to have issues with regular pillows now so oh well. Hope that helps. Although I will say it seems like i’ve Had some level of pain for 4 months now with no “off” days so my idea of a flare is a day/time period when the pain is worse than normal pain days. Doesn’t seem like it ever fully goes away. Today I feel pretty ok bc of the muscle relaxer so instead of being a big bone head and going hard bc i felt normal, I decided to take it easy even though I felt improved so as to not have a big rebound effect. Good luck. This fibro thing really is no fun. People who don’t have it, downplay it like it’s not that bad but I think we can all agree we’re not making this shit up.

I start to get hot, it feels as though the heat is radiating from my insides, i start to feel sore in my muscles and joints and fatigued, then a migraine starts. I continue to feel like i have severe heat stroke then i feel sick as well, then thats it im floored. I can sleep solidly for up to 14 hours while burning up radiating heat which actually heats a room. The longest flare was 3 days solid, bedridden and wiped out physically and mentally.
