Sensory Overload?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you have sensitivity to tastes, smells, chemicals, smoke, things that never bugged you before but now everything changed? My sister smokes and the smell is so overwhelming now I can't breathe. Food tastes different than it once did, I feel like I can taste the chemicals and pesticides...I know a lot of us suffer from sensory overload with our eyes, lights, sounds, tinnitus, etc. I was just wondering how many of you also have other sensitivities you never did before? Is your skin sensitive… read more

Yes I do too, I honestly had not related it to fibromyalgia before, however I now nlknow differently.

Perfumes feel like they choke me, my partner suffers heavy wrath for passing wind, any bad smelling feet get nagged until they are clean. My food tastes have changed so much I find myself unable to eat very much and I am now a fussy eater due to not liking very much anymore. I had no idea a disability could change someone this fundamentally.

My hearing was not bad. I was that person that constantly said “what?” Or “pardon?” Occasionally “excuse me?” And now I have spidey senses! 😳. This can also be a curse, like trying to get off to sleep but hearing everything.

I’ve also become more jumpy, as if the noise is so loud it makes me jump. My partner dosed off on the sofa a few days ago and dropped the tv remote and I jumped out of my skin, might as well have been a gunshot to me for my reaction. Not to mention neighbors that are not particularly loud but I hear them anyway. I’m trying not to let it freak me out but it is becoming harder not to.

My mind is boggled by the sheer volume of symptoms this disability has and just how many I suffer with. I really got the crappy end of that deal.

Yes! The past few days I’ve been having a bad flare-up, and now everything thats sweet at all tastes like straight corn syrup. Oddly, salty goes the other direction for me. Sometimes everything tastes fine, and other times, I’m dumping salt on all of my food because i cant taste it.
