Lately I have been getting this pain in my throat, but not sore throat, which sometimes makes it difficult and painful to swallow. Plus my voice has been getting coarse and scratchy when i speak. My doctor said its because im with the costochondritis pain constantly, waiting to see my rheumatologist. Has anyone else experience this symptom??? Any advice?? Thank you

@A MyFibroTeam Member,
Hi there my friend!
My voice started to get very scratchy and raspy. The sound of my voice was changing.
So I was evaluated by an Ear, Nose,Throat doctor. I learned that there is a form of Acid Reflux that is invisible. Meaning one can have it but not have the normal symptoms of burning or indigestion, etc.....
My exams showed no form of acid reflux but I did have some phlegm in the back of my throat.
I am glad you will be seeing your Rheumatologist. Please let me know what happens.
My Ear, Nose,Throat doctor found that the muscles around my voice box were extremely tight. He gave me some voice and neck exercises to do. In addition, I have to breathe in some steam. So far it seems to be helping.
Gentle Hugs
I often have a hoarse voice and pain in my throat. My GP told me it was caused by a postnasal drip. I found it would flare up when I had a fibro-flare. But to be safe he had my thyroid checked and although the results came back normal, my GP sent me to have my thyroid scanned as well just to be safe. It turns out I have small goiters and nodules on my thyroid. I still need to go for a biopsy, but at least it explains the pain.
Apparently some people have goiters and nodules with no pain or problems, however I think if you have fibro then it goes without saying that your body will react...
Hope that helps

I have a tough time with my throat randomly slamming shut and sending me into a coughing/choking fit. Apparently thats just another affected area.
Makes no sense that it's costocondritis which affects the ribs/chest area.. perhaps a medication making you dry in the throat, weather or something else.. Try a spray to keep your mouth moist (Biotene here in Australia). Sugar, dehydration...
I had similar and sounded like I had laryngitis. The worst time I actually had pneumonia as well. My internist told me it was also from reflux while asleep. Get it checked!
