Members shared diverse experiences with TENS units for pain management, with usage times ranging from 10 minutes to 8 hours depending on individual tolerance and pain severity. Several members recommended starting with medical-grade units prescribed by doctors or physical therapists who can guide proper placement and settings, noting helpful protocols like combining TENS with heat before and ice after, avoiding use near the heart or temples, and ensuring adequate contact gel to prevent shocking. A recurring theme was that TENS units work differently for everyone, with some finding significant relief that reduces their need for pain medication while others experienced increased discomfort or found the sensation intolerable, emphasizing the importance of consulting healthcare providers especially when metal implants are present.

I usually use my tens unit for 2-5 hours. It does work for my larger body pains like shoulders, neck, thighs. I'd rather use the tens than popping more pills.

I love mine. But I tend to leave it on. It helps so much I don't want to let it go off

Hi Kaye ... I've Used A 'Tens Machine' For Years And I Do Find That It Helps Quite A Lot At Times ... I Do Agree With Marylou, Not To Use It During A 'Flair' But Rather, For Use In Specific Areas That Are, Either Giving You The Most 'Pain' All Of The Time Or, Occasionally Too... You Can 'Move' It Around Accordingly And A 'Good Quality' Tens Machine, Will Have A Power Level - To Incresae / Decrease The 'Stimulation' Of 'Electric-Shocks' That Go Through The Area " ⬇️ " And It Definitely Should Have A 'Timer', That You Can Set, So It 'Switches-Off' Automatically, Then You Don't Have To Worry That It's Left On For Too 'Long' ... I Got Mine From My GP And I Would Suggest, That You 'Try' There 'First', However If You Can't Get One That Way, Then There Are Good Ones On The Internet Or, If You Have A 'Boots' Pharmacist's Near You, They Sell Really Good Quality Ones Too ... Please, Make Sure, That It Has The Power Level Component, Plus The Automatic, 'Shut-Off' Timing Control Because, These Are Really Important / Safety Features ... I Usually Use Mine For 45 / 60 Minutes At A Time - In One Area (Sometimes A Little Longer) Then, I'll Move It To A Different Area, If Needed ... However, Everybody Is Different And Can Withstand The 'Sensation' For Shorter / Longer Time - Depending Upon The 'Power-Level' Setting ... I Really Hope, This Has Helped And If You Need To Talk Or, Just Want To, Im Hear Anytime Which, Goes For 'Anybody' Else Too ... Much Love N Big, Yesterday Soft Gentle Hugs Your Way, Today And Everyday ... Trish xx❤️

I do have a tens. But let me warn you kaytussing . You won't be able to use it during a flareup. What it does is send shock waves through your skin (ie nerves, muscles, tendons) at the spot of placement . Well..... what is fibro ? A nerve ending overload. See what I mean ?
