Am I Having A Flare Or Do I Need To Go To Doctor?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

This is a question I feel we all often face. How do you know the difference between a flare and actually needing medical attention? I thought my sore throat and arm/hand pain was all due to fibromyalgia. Since I already had a doctors appointment, I thought I would ask him to check it out. Come to find out I have Strep Throat and Tendonitis. How do you decide when its time to go to the doctor?

I think that a sore throat has nothing to do with fibromyalgia - which is connected to pain in muscles, tendons and other soft tissues. Things like sore throat, feeling ill etc. - should definitely be checked out by a doctor. We should never assume that all types of pain are fibromyalgia flare ups. In your case the Strep throat could have turned very serious. My advice is that if one is feeling ill or in too much pain, see a doctor.

I would think that anytime you have something like a sore throat, you should always have it checked. Also any new symptoms should also be checked. At least then you know it isn't something else.

Rose that is something I struggle with also. For one thing I think that I am not always aware of all my coexisting illnesses. Plus every time I have a flare it may activate something else. Or like right now I actually have a new condition (inflamed sacroilliac joint ) which has activated EVERYTHING in my body via spread of the inflammation. When the pain doc said that it really made sense to me. It kicked off Fibro and I thought it was caused by Fibro. But not! In my opinion our bodies are just very complex and it seems to always be wise to check with your doctor. They say to do that after 2 weeks so maybe that's the best way to sort things out.I hope that makes sense! πŸ’œπŸ€—

Anytime it’s a new symptom and your not sure about it. Get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. And yes sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish between fibro flare issues and other issues
