I use one or sometimes two walking sticks. I was initially embarrassed but if that's what I need to do to be able to get out of the house then so be it xx 💜 xx
I actually have a skinny somewhat useless cane at home that I use sometimes at home as I got it free and it has no sturdy rubber grip on it's bottom but I can use it on my carpet area in my house. I have used it when getting up from my low couch, and recently I developed an issue balancing and walking without wobbling when I first get up from sleep. I have heard that happens in fibro, but I think it's a result of taking meds, not sure, but I didn't have that in fibro before. I used the cane in public 2 times so far but I need a better one. Remember to not care what others think that don't have our condition with regard to what you may look like. If they aren't going to help you around all day making sure you don't fall, their oppinion doesn't matter
Canes aren't for old people, they are for those who don't want to fall period! Lol. It's better to use them than get hurt. Also, yes I heard a doc say the ski pole canes are the best. Wrist straps are good especially if you need to reach or carry something and have no place to put the cane and need it/them when you are done. 🌹🦋🌹
I am 63 now so when I ride in my mobility scooter nobody that sees me gives me a second look. You are very young so I understand your concern. Maybe you can do a favor for all people with Fibromyalgia. People will often say we look okay, that there doen’t doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with us. The problem is that we often hide how we feel and what we are going through. If people are going to know how ill we are we have to start showing them. Too many of us have hidden our illness from others and then complained when they don’t take us seriously. It is time we start showing people how ill we are. If I have to stay in bed I stay in bed. If I am better off with a scooter I am going to use one. I know it is hard but if you need a cane then please use one and if someone asks you why, tell them. It is okay if they think you don’t need it, you know the truth, so show them your truth and live your truth. I hope all of us will stop being polite and hiding our illness away and start showing and living our truth.
I can walk but I cannot walk far. I used to love walking in nature or riding my bike on trails. I bought a mobility scooter so I can get outside and ride around. I love being outside and getting some sun and smelling fresh air. I am tired of being indoors and in my car. I have just started using it and it is great. I could get by without it but why deprive myself of the outdoors.
The answer to the first question is: I use a walking stick or a cane depending on my needs. My primary problem is balance. So I use a walking stick most of the time since it helps with balance more than a cane. When I need more support than balance I will use a cane. I do have a walker and a rollator if things get really bad or if it is supper icy. The answer to the second question is: You do not need a note to use any items. If you wanted your insurance to cover the cost your doctor would need to write a prescription.
